With the internet a-crazy with clips of a man in Hackney allegedly keying an £100,000 Aston Martin this week, it’s worth checking your own policy to make sure that your own policy covers you in the event of your car encountering a wickedly minded bystander.
In this case, a man has now been charged – accused of causing criminal damage to a motor vehicle. The damage is estimated to be £9,000.
The Aston Martin V8 Vantage was parked in a supermarket car park on Morning Lane, Hackney, when it was damaged on 19 June.
The alleged attack was filmed by a camera placed on the dashboard of the supercar.

Some insurance companies now offer a discount if you have a dashboard camera fitted in to your car – these handy gadgets, also known as car camera recorders, provide valuable evidence of what happened in a car accident, helping to settle claims more quickly and reduce fraud. Most often dashboard cam apps from a mobile phone do not count.
Check your own policy for details to see if your provider offers this perk and come back for more news on dashboard cameras next week.
